Differences of opinion, arguments over coding practises, advice on improvements to technique and practises. These are all things that have made me the developer I am today.

In fact, these are all things I want from any team I am working in as they help me growing as a developer. And when I don’t agree, it is a great starting point for a discussion on the pros and cons of each point of view.

I do on occasion encounter people who feel that any code they have written is the “shit”, feel any voice that disagrees is not worth listening too and/or are not to learn from other peoples idea/feedback.

I always feel sorry for these people as they reached the limit of their potential some way back, and will never be a truly great developer.

For this reason can I suggest people should be afraid of deleting/changing code and remember that differences of opinion will help make you code base great and should never be discouraged.

And finally make sure you enter any discussions with and open mind, and think about what the other person is saying and why they are saying it.
