The future is unknown..
As a developer, the future is limited.
I don’t mean this in a bad way, for one thing I love my job and can see myself doing it for many years to come. Instead, the point I ant to make, is about the job progression that is available to developers.
I see only two real options.
You can head for a “management” role, something that you may have gained a little experience at on the small scale, but will ultimately mean leaving your development days behind you.
Or you can stay with your chosen profession, working your way up to senior developer but what then? most likely a management role.. :(
I personally am not sure where my path will lead, and I think this is a good thing. Afer all, I have know senior developers that have found a niche that suited then and CTO’s that still find time to code.
Hopefully, whatever the future holds I will still love my job in years to come and that is the best any of us can hope for.
